The days where we could hop on a plane to some far flung land seem so long ago. (Is this year even over yet?) And I don’t think I’m alone in making a list of places I’m dying to visit when all this is over. And on that list?

Malaysia.

Malaysia is famous for its vibrant cities and rainforests, but it also boasts some of the most stunning beaches in the world. Whether you fancy discovering your own private spot or going on an island adventure, Malaysia has the beach for you. It’s also the home to many luxury resorts, so if it’s sipping cocktails on white sands looking out into turquoise seas you’re after, it won’t disappoint.

Gertak Sanggul

If you’re staying in the Penang area, Gertak Sanggul has probably the best beaches in Penang. It’s primarily a quaint fishing village and slightly off the beaten track, making the beach one of the best kept in the region. Mabul Island Beach

Many of the best beaches in Malaysia are located on one of their tropical island resorts. Mabul Island Beach is actually on the island of Sipadan and you can arrive here by boat from Semporna. One of the beach’s most famous features is the little chalets you can rent. These adorable wooden cabins are raised above the water on stilts. Rawa Island Beach

Rawa Island Resort is a jetty ride away from Mersing, a southeast coastal town in Malaysia. The town itself also boasts some beautiful beaches. Layang-Layang Island Beach

Layang-Layang Island Beach is on another peaceful island perfect for nature lovers. Spend your time here snorkeling, diving, or even bird watching, you can take your pick. There’s plenty of wildlife here you can’t miss. The coral reefs seem almost undiscovered by humans and have been pretty much reclaimed by the sea, along with some of the coastline. Pantai Cunang

Pantai Cunang is a perfect place to get away from it all if you’re travelling in the densely populated state of Selangor. The beach is actually maintained by Mah Meri Orang Asli villagers and hidden amongst a mangrove forest. It’s a real hidden gem in this well-developed region. The state of Selangor is becoming very up and coming, so don’t forget to stop by and visit the major cities and attractions.
