A beginner’s guide to prostate play

Guest post by Peter Minkoff of Queer Voices Magazine

If you’re a straight man reading this article, you’re probably a little spooked yet intrigued. However, if you get over homohysteria and keep your mind open, you’ll be mindblown by a world of pleasure you’ll find hiding in your booty. So, don’t be a square and read this guide to prostate play to spice up your sexy nights and solo sessions with some anal eroticism.

What’s so special about prostate play?

Strictly biologically speaking, anal play in men is special due to the dense network of nerve endings that can be found around the anus and in the prostate (AKA the g-spot). Your prostate is a walnut-sized gland placed at the front of your rectum, about three-quarters of a finger deep in your anus. These nerve endings connect with your penis and the PC muscles which help the production of orgasm. Actually, if you stimulate these points, you can reach orgasm without touching any of the big genital spots.

Be prepared

Before you think you can stick anything up there, make sure to prevent any uncomfortable accidents from embarrassing you. If you’re the one getting your prostate stimulated, make sure to douche first (flush out anything that can make a mess) and get a shower afterwards. Trim your nails and make sure your hands are clean since the anus is sensitive and can be torn easily.

To make things extra safe, use latex gloves and paper towels. If you’re concerned about STDs (as you should always be), wrap up all anal toys in condoms.

Use plenty of lube

Unlike vagina or even penis, the anus doesn’t self-lubricate, so you want to apply a generous amount of lube before and during the prostate play. Read the label and choose a product that’s appropriate for anal use and follow all lube precautionary advice (no using silicone lube on silicone toys and such). If this is your first time trying any anal play, make sure to warm up first to relax. You can massage the anus and your other favourite erogenous zones. Stroke the shaft or even go with gentle nipple play—foreplay goes a long way towards having some bum fun and reaching a prostate orgasm

Find the gold

Once you’re nice and ready to play, you can begin to go inside and towards a prostate. The prostate is not very deep in your anus, so you can start with a finger. Feel around for a walnut-sized ball located about two inches in your anus, below the rectum towards your testicles. If you’re aroused, the prostate enlarges, so it shouldn’t be too hard to feel, but if it’s your first time, have patience. To best massage the prostate, use a come-hither motion with your finger toward the navel (don’t rub back and forth). When you get more comfortable, you can introduce an anal vibrator from Shoppster for extra stimulation. These are very practical and specially designed to stimulate the prostate. With generous massage, either with a finger or with a toy, you can reach an intense, full-body orgasm!

Don’t go all in if you’re scared

If you’re eager to try anal play but don’t want to insert anything inside just yet, don’t worry. You can start prostate massage from the outside, by rubbing your perineum (the area between your testicles and your butt). Put some pressure on this spot and you can make contact with the g-spot. Experiment with what feels best for you since everyone is different and has different levels of sensitivity. Then slowly, you can insert your finger, gently stroke your g-spot and voila—you’re a prostate massager!

Go slow

If this is your first time receiving or giving prostate stimulation, make sure to move slowly, remain calm and progress at a pace that feels comfortable for you and your partner. You won’t become a prostate guru and know all anal pleasure tricks after one session of prostate play, so there’s no pressure. As you get more comfortable with the new sensation, you can experiment with pressure, speed, depth and toys.

Many guys think that anal play is something extreme and scary, when in fact it’s completely normal and can be a great bonding experience with your partner and with yourself. So don’t hesitate to venture when no one ventured before and become a modern man who knows what pleasure means.
