Alcohol-Free Alternatives for Sober October & Beyond : Nixalina

If you’ve been keeping up with my socials, you’ll know I am currently doing #SoberOctober and 2 weeks in. I have never completed such monthly challenges before, although the idea has always been appealing. I decided to throw myself this time at Sober October for various reasons – I was aware I was drinking more than normal, and sick of hangovers. I wanted to give myself better clarity during a difficult relationship breakup, tackling all the emotions head on and sober, to allow me to heal properly. I also wanted to actually commit to something and see it through – to ensure I have the willpower and strength of character to do it. Finally, I wanted to see any benefits on my energy levels, my skin, my sleep pattern and general mood. We all know alcohol is a depressant.

So, given I am now 2 weeks into my sober month, I have discovered that alcohol-free beverages are a FAB way to bridge the gap. I was dreading the social aspect sans alcohol, including Friday evenings at my work where I enjoy a G&T or Prosecco. I was dreading being around others who were drinking and tipsy, whilst I was stone cold sober. On top of that, everyone knows I LOVE MY PROSECCO! But determined not to quit on myself and also not become a recluse for 4 weeks, I hit the alcohol-free drinks and realised, with a placebo effect, I was just fine.

So on my hunt for such beverages, I’ve done the research already and thought I’d do a feature on alcohol-free drinks that can be purchased in Singapore, for anyone else wanting to reduce their alcohol intake or cut it out completely. FYI, I actually now love alcohol-free beer and will continue to choose it over normal beer.
