I heard about the Profhilo rumour on the beauty street a couple of years ago and have always wanted to try it because it seems to have so many benefits for your skin’s appearance, as well as deep complexion hydration. I’m just…terrified of needles. Sure, I’ve previously had botox and fillers but allow me to make it clear, I usually have fainting spells a few injections in, or need to squeeze stress balls to get me through the process.
I finally took the plunge and went to Kowayo Aesthetic Clinic to see Dr Wong, who talked me through the entire process of Profhilo HA Skinbooster and what it achieves. I was all in! So after 30 minutes of numbing cream pre-downtime, the injections themselves only took around 10 minutes before I was skipping off home.
3 weeks later I’m so glad I did it! Huge noticeable changes to my skin’s texture, firmness & signs of ageing.
What is Profhilo?
Profhilo is the first revolutionary bio-remodelling “injectable skincare” that uses 100% pure hyaluronic acid to address signs of skin aging naturally, through bio-stimulation of collagen and elastin. It is developed by obtaining thermally cross-linked stabilized hybrid cooperative complexes of high hyaluronic acid (HA) concentration (64mg/2ml) – an innovative thermal production process patented by IBSA. This allows high and low molecular weight HA to link together and to be released slowly and dissipate evenly under the skin without lumpiness.
Not only that, the concentration of HA in Profhilo is 5x more than the average skinbooster. In addition, it does not contain additives such as BDDE or Lycodine, which usually exist in traditional filler.

After my initial welcoming consultation with the doctor, who analysed my skin and face and discuss the treatment, I was escorted to a quiet room to start the process. The first steps is to cleanse the skin all makeup and impurities, before the numbing cream is applied and left on for 20-30 minutes.
Having the numbing cream across your whole lower face, despite any misconceptions, doesn’t feel weird at all. It isn’t like your whole face suddenly feels like it’s not there, that numbness you get from dental injections is not the same! Painless and chilled, I waited for it to work before then being taken back to the doctor’s room to get down to business.
He offered me the option of painkillers first – something I’ve never even been told about at other clinics. The pain killer does what you’d expect – helps lower any pain from the Profhilo injections. The downside is, you need double the amount of injections. So the painkillers will be implemented at 5 points per side of my face, 10 in total, where he plans to then inject the Profhilo. I figured, why not give them a go and so agreed. I am so thankful, in hindsight, that I did!
The painkiller injections were mildly uncomfortable but other than that, fine. I had a therapist also there helping to ice the areas of my face during injection, and distratcing me throughout too. Once they’re in, we immediately move to the Profhilo injections, and yes, they were more painful and yes, I was glad I took the painkillers beforehand. On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d say only 4 though. That being said, the doctor said there was one point on each side of my face that I needed another Profhilo injection, so I actually did try them without the painkillers and boy could I tell the difference.
The immediate aftermath was just small lumps at the injection points, as per photo above. No intense redness or swelling, no after-pain. I was able to go home immediately and within a couple of hours, the lumps had disappeared. You wouldn’t even know I had them done that very same day.
Results
I noticed a real difference around 2 weeks later, where I looked damn fresh in the mornings, sans make-up. My skin looked so much more full, hydrated and youthful. This then made my make-up look so much better too, as the canvas base is improved, so to speak. Lines were less obvious, texture had improved and my whole face appeared more lifted too.
Would I have them done again? Absolutely. But more so, I’d go back to Kowayo as I loved the experience there from start to finish – a good doctor in Singapore Aesthetic Clinic to guide you through and help ease any anxiety is crucial when you’re dealing with something you’re injecting into your body, especially you’re face. I’d definitely recommend this venue if you’re wishing to have some facial treatments – they have a whole host of options to choose from – my next ‘to-do’ treatment is tackling those pesky dark under-eye circles.
