Christian Louboutin Celebrates 30 Years of the Iconic Red Sole

Can you imagine a fashion industry without the iconic red sole that depicts a Christian Louboutin shoe? Me neither, and yet, this powerhouse signature was only put on the map 30 years ago, and by chance too. An editor of an American magazine was touring Paris city and so happened to pass by Louboutin’s first ever boutique at the same moment Princess Caroline of Monaco was visiting a nearby art gallery and stopped to view the first-ever Louboutin collection via the window. And just like that – the rest is history, as they say.

Following the success of the first and second Loubi show, Christian Louboutin returns with a third show to celebrate the momentous milestone of the Red Sole 30th anniversary, alongside the Women’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection.

On 2 March 2023, Christian Louboutin presented a unique dance show imagined by renowned choreographer Sadeck Berrabah within the Opéra Comique, one of the oldest theatrical musical institutions in France and part of the six official National Theatres.

The choreographer, accompanied by 50 dancers wearing black and white boots ASTRIBOTTA exclusively made for the show, introduced a new vision of dance called ‘tutting’, an interpretive style involving intricate movements of the body and hands in geometric shapes performed in synchronized harmony. The stage, entirely covered with reflective material, created an optical illusion of infinite Red soles; the Maison’s most iconic symbol.

After the show, Christian Louboutin unveiled the Fall/Winter 2023 collection within the grand historical ballroom of the Opéra Comique. The collection displayed on two metallic red towers and two circular alcôves paid tribute to the design of the iconic building.

Featuring showstopping pieces such as the black and white ASTRIBOTTA knee-high boots worn by the dancers with its matching LOUBITWIST clutch, MJ STRASS pumps, CASSANDRISSIMA ALTA platform sandals, CONDORA heel, and LOUBILA bag with its signature CARASPIKES, the Fall/Winter 2023 collection is definitely one to watch and will be available online and in boutiques worldwide from May 2023.
