With a focus on remarkable women, Jasper Conran Spring/Summer 2020 juxtaposes voluminous silhouettes with a pared-back insouciant style. Inherently feminine but without convention: billowing skirts feature deep, slouchy pockets while evening-esque gowns are paired with understated leather sandals.
“This is a collection inspired by women who really enjoyed wearing their clothes and did so in an exuberant way. Women who were confident, trailblazing and true to themselves. Diana Vreeland, Marguerite McBey, Diana Cooper and Millicent Rogers’ (amongst others) approach to how they dressed has been on my mind, combined with the marvellous colours and patterns in the paintings of Jean-Edouard Vuillard.” Jasper Conran.
Rich shades of bottle green, blackberry and chocolate brown sit alongside flashes of lime green and palest lilac, offset in vibrant prints layered against mismatched backdrops. Oversized checks and stripes sit alongside a rambling English garden of dahlias, lilac, mimosa, rudbeckia and forget-me-not.
Craftsmanship plays a central role in the creation of the collection. From a froth of hand-cut petal-like layers in silk organza to a weaving thread of Myotis blue, each piece is made and embroidered by hand.
