It’s always exciting to see some fresh new talent at London Fashion Week, and the showcases provide a brilliant platform to see not just one, but loads of budding new designers, back-to-back in one show.
For this season, the India-based International Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) and the London School of Trends (LST) teamed up to bring 18 of the hottest student and graduate designers from India to the catwalks in a two-part showcase. The first, ‘Fashion Utsav’, meaning ‘fashion celebration’, displayed innovative silhouettes in a whole spectrum of colour, embellishments and fabrics, whilst the second, named ‘Azaad’, or ‘freedom’, showed off traditional Indian craft techniques at their very best.
From abstract piping against neons, to bold tiger prints and inventively embellished metallics, it was a mixed bag of colour, craft and originality. Favourites for us included the silver fringed detail bodysuit, and tiered rainbow ruffle dress. I’d also be pretty happy with a pair of those pointed hot pink ankle boots, which I’ll be taking inspiration from going into next season, and don’t forget to pick up a few new pairs of statement earrings and matching necklaces to go with them too; if these accessories are anything to go by, more is DEFINITELY more.
