On Pedder Spring Summer 2020 Collection

It’s an exciting season of reinvention, with Spring Summer 2020 seeing a host of past trends making a bold comeback, albeit with a twist. Familiar shapes, colours, and styles return to the forefront and are made fresh and modern again with new silhouettes, materials, and embellishments. Check out my favourite pieces below from the On Pedder S/S ’20 collection:

Chain Reaction

L to R: Paco Rabanne Necklace S$735, Rene Caovilla Heels S$2140, Area Handbag S$1550

Channel your inner punk rock this season with a healthy dose of rebellions metal accents. Oversized chain necklaces were seen on many designer runways including Paco Rabanne, while chainmail-inspired embellishments make it onto accessories, gracing Jennifer Behr’s Esta Earrings and Rene Caovilla’s Galaxia sandals.

Au Naturale

L to R: Maison Michel Visor price available on request, Alexander McQueen Earrings S$710, Malone Souliers Slides S$740

Raw, natural materials such as straw, bamboo, and raffia seem especially apt for the warmer season, but Spring Summer 2020 takes this one step further with contemporary shapes, luxe accents, and polished lines. Jil Sander soften structured bags with bamboo handles, while Jacquemus and Elleme embrace the trend in the form of oversized totes and larger-than-life straw hats.

Weird and Wonderful Hats

L to R: Jacquemus price available on request, Black Plain Flapper S$240, Flapper S$540

Recalling Autumn Winter’s dome bucket hats (à la Nina Ricci), designers continue to push the envelope this season with even more oversized, over-the-top hat styles in a wide variety of materials, colours, and prints, as seen from Aalto, Jacquemus, and Flapper.

Must be Square

L to R: Paciotti Heels S$720, Paciotti Silver Heels S$850

Taking their cue from Bottega Veneta’s much-loved square-toed mules and pumps from Autumn Winter, designers took the trend and ran with it full speed ahead for Spring Summer. In addition to BV, brands such as A.W.A.K.E. Mode and Paciotti have embraced the square- toe trend this season.

Creatures of Comfort

L to R: Christian Louboutin Black Flats S$1080, Malone Souliers S$780, Nicholas Kirkwood price available on request

In exploring new alternatives to the ever-enduring sneaker trend, designers have come up with a diverse range of flats (think mules, oxfords, and loafers) that retain the day-to-day comfort of sneakers but offer a wider spectrum of styles. Neous presents a fashion-forward take with its Phinia leather square-toe flats with a stretch-ruched collar, while Malone Souliers, Nicholas Kirkwood, and Christian Louboutin opt for a more tailored look with a twist.
