Travel during a pandemic is going to feel VERY different in comparison to other times you’ve taken a train or even a plane somewhere. It’s important that when you prepare for your next trip, you’ve organised and got everything you need to stay safe and reach your destination without any trouble. Here are some tips for preparing for travel during a pandemic.
Get tested
Regardless of where you’re going, whether you’re staying in the country or leaving it, you’re still putting yourself and others at risk by leaving your home and travelling with close proximity to others. With that being said, it’s worth getting a Covid test for travel as these are more readily available than they were when the pandemic first came about. By getting a test, you can check that you are safe to travel at the time with a negative test. It’s also useful to do if you’re travelling to see someone who is particularly vulnerable and therefore any suspicion of having Covid or having symptoms can be clarified.
Stay safe
You want to keep yourself safe at all times and that means adhering to the rules and guidance that most of us have been doing actively. Keep your distance from others where possible, wash your hands whenever you touch any surfaces and make sure to wear a mask when it comes to travel. If not, many establishments and businesses may ask you to wear it or you’ll be requested to leave. Even if it’s uncomfortable, it’s something that is necessary to keep everyone else safe, including you.
Avoid all unnecessary contact with others
We don’t realise just how much we come into contact with other people, which can make this one challenging when it comes to travelling. You may be in a plane that’s somewhat confined in being able to keep one’s distance. However, it’s always a good idea to try and keep your distance where you can, focusing on minimizing any touch contact with another human being and also being careful of what you touch that other people have come into contact with.
These are all measures that you wouldn’t think to have been a problem before but now they are. Even after the pandemic, it’s expected that more people will be conscious of what they’re touching and the dangers of bacteria.
Be aware of restrictions in place
There are restrictions that are in place for a reason and when it comes to travelling, you may find that some countries or areas have certain restrictions. These restrictions can change but it’s something to be aware of before you travel. Try to find out the latest information a few days before travelling and double checking this on the day you travel, too!
Preparing for travel during a pandemic is likely going to require a bit more effort on your part, however it’s important in helping you to stay safe. Hopefully, many of us will be able to enjoy travelling more by the end of this year.
