Get Sugar(ed) Singapore: All Natural Hair Removal

Prior to landing on Singapore shores, I had tried waxing and IPL on my body hair – namely the bikini line, but never even heard of ‘sugaring’. Sugar(ed) is the first and only professional body-sugaring studio in Singapore that is dedicated to the all-natural hair removal technique of sugaring. The product used to remove the hair is so natural, you can eat it. I should know – I already have. It is actually rather delicious!

Long gone are the days of hot waxing that burns your skin, of sticky strips that feel like they’re also ripping off the top layer of your skin, not to mention environmental waste issues. The art of sugaring, found only at Sugar(ed) outlets here in Singapore, is an ancient technique of hair removal using a 100% natural and water-soluble sugar paste made up of water, lemon juice and sugar. It’s also less painful than common waxing methods and only removes dead skin cells, leaving skin soft and smooth as opposed to red and irritated.

The sugar paste is applied at body temperature so scalding is never an issue. Hair is removed in its natural direction of growth, meaning far less breakage and fewer ingrown hairs.

“We launched our first studio in May 2016 in the heart of Bukit Timah, our second in the buzzing area of Katong in July 2017, and our third on iconic Keong Saik Road in May 2018. Just in June 2019, we came even closer to the north with our fourth studio along Upper Thomson Road.

At Sugar(ed), we specialise in Brazilians for her and offer additional body sugaring treatments for men and women. Our founder and Master Educator, Jasmine, is a certified Alexandria Professional Body Sugaring Educator and has personally trained each of our sugarists to master the technique.”

What is the difference between sugaring and waxing?

  • Whilst most waxes are made up of chemicals, sugaring is completely natural – literally lemon juice, sugar and water.
  • It is applied at body temperature avoiding any nasty burns or painful heat, whereas waxing has to be a high heat.
  • Sugaring removes the hair in the direction it grows leaving a smoother finish and a longer time between needing your next appointment, whereas waxing goes against the direction of hair growth – leading to breakage and possible ingrown hairs.
  • Sugaring is safe for all skin conditions, waxing is not.
  • In comparison to the pain barrier – sugaring is considerably less painful than waxing – subjective of course to each individual.
  • Sugaring is bacteria resistant, wax breeds bacteria in the wax warmers.
  • One ball of sugar paste is used repeatedly on one area of your body, whereas waxing with strips and wooden sticks is not environmentally friendly.

I was lucky enough to encounter Sugar(ed) when I first moved to Singapore and I have not, nor will I ever, return to waxing again. This is 120% not a paid or sponsored post on any level and these are my genuine views and Lord knows I wish someone had shown me the light years ago. I spent over a decade screaming my way through waxing sessions, calling the therapist every name under the sun, being left with dark bruises when they did it incorrectly, skin burns when the wax was too hot and many many times, clumps of wax left where they didn’t remove it all properly that then stuck to my panties. Legit happened  – just imagine!

I always assumed removing my body hair is a monthly excruciating painful experience and I would have to take paracetamol an hour before my sessions to try get through it. I never did my underarms or legs, just bikini line and that was ENOUGH.

So imagine, just imagine, my absolute joy when I realise being Sugar(ed) is almost (I say almost) pain FREE. There was no kicking, no swearing, no calling the therapist a ‘fucking bitch’ then profoundly apologising after the pain went away. Nothing. I just lie there, listening to music and scroll through my IG as the therapist removes all my unwanted hairs.

Aside from the treatment itself, I have noticed a huge difference in the regrowth too. Less ingrown hairs, less hairs with finer hairs growing back and the condition of the skin is much better too. Sugar(ed) stock this incredible product called Phenomen-all by Alexandria Professional that aids repairing of the skin and any ingrown hairs. It costs $85 and is worth every dollar. It is also fantastic for your face – so much so my partner used it all up and I had to buy another tube.

To those who attend my S&SC launch party – do enjoy your complimentary appointment and let me know if it changes your hair removal world too. For those without, Sugar(ed) currently has gifting discounts and credit discounts for the festive season, so worthwhile to snap up these deals and start your sugaring journey now.
