The best mascaras for long, fake-looking natural lashes

Purchasing a sealed new mascara that you’ve never tried before, only to get it home and realise it’s utter crap, is quite the shopping let down. It’s also unavoidable, seeing as you can’t really go traverse the shops trying on tester mascaras – did someone mention eye hygiene?

Having tried eyelash extensions once and realising their not for me, I’ve been a mascara girl through and through. I’ve tried A LOT of different brands (2 years as a MUA, 10 years + as a London blogger and 2.5 years as deputy online editor in SG), so I know which mascaras really make my lashes immediately look longer, thicker and fuller, & which ones fail.

Believe it or not, these are real, and all I’ve used is mascara:

It’s not just about length and volume either – a good mascara will stay on all day, lasting as long as you can. A good mascara won’t clump after 4 weeks (what a waste of dollar) and a good mascara won’t fall and sit under your eyes after 2 hours of wear.

I have only 3 that have made the list. Buy one of these and forego mascara disappointment:

Benefit Cosmetics – Roller Lash

I was a Benefit Cosmetics Make-Up Artist back in my heyday, and the BadGal mascara was never one of my favourite products if I am honest. However, Benefit have turned it around for me and created THE best mascara I have ever used.

Yes, the best. It’s 100% the best mascara on the market, in my humble opinion.

It glides one easily, lifts pretty instantly and adds volume at the base of the eyelash. It lasts all darn day and it makes my eyelashes look super fake, to the point I get asked regularly if they are. It never falls underneath my eyes, keeping my eyes looking as fresh as possible, all day long. This mascara offers impossible length that you didn’t expect before. THE BEST MASCARA. 10/10.

Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash, $44 from Sephora.

Burberry – Cat Lashes

Second, and coming in a close second, is Burberry’s Cat Lashes. In both dark brown and black, this mascara never failed me. Sure, it’s slightly more pricey than what I would have spent before, but it is worth the cost. Lengthens, glides on, delivers volume and lasts for a decent 3 months before it needs replacing. I love that I can build relentlessly with this mascara and it never looks bad, only badass.

By Terry – Lash Expert Twist Brush

Before I discovered the two above, this was my staple. The twist brush, which I originally assumed was a selling gimmick, actually works. The ability to twist the wand end does actually help to enhance both volume and length, and avoids any clumping potential too. But even when I was too rushed to do any twisting, this mascara was still a joy to wear – long lasting, lengthening and never smudged.
