Who doesn’t like a good shortcut or hack? Especially when it comes to getting ready in the morning. Well, now you can. It turns out that there are a bunch of easy ways out there staring you in the face. You just can’t see them.
Usually, creating the perfect wardrobe requires a bunch of expensive visits to the mall. You have to spend hours rifling through clothes racks, trying to find something that works for you. But, on many occasions you don’t need to buy anything at all. In fact, you may not even have to leave the house,
In this post, we look at some fashion hacks that will change the way you approach the matter of getting dressed.
Ankle straps
Because pumps aren’t enough, certain fashion houses began pairing them with ribbons several years ago. The idea was to make the footwear more interesting and cover more of the lower leg to create balance with the rest of the outfit. The idea was extremely popular and now many designers regularly release pumps designed to be worn alongside straps.
Original brand straps, however, are notoriously expensive. It’s not uncommon for fashionistas to spend hundreds of dollars on them.
That, however, all changes when you realise that you simply replace ankle straps with ribbons from the craft store. Get the assistant to cut you a length that you need – around two-metres, and that’s it – job done, Then wrap them around your ankle to clasp them together. It’s affordable and it looks great too if you can find ribbons that match your shoes.
Bean bag clutch
Yeah, you read that right. Straw bags have proven exceptionally popular in recent years – mainly thanks to the extraordinary value they offer. Now that Chinese factories are producing them en masse, the price has gone down considerably. And so, naturally, the fashion world is exploring how else to use them.
One option is to use raffia bags as regular hand bags and clutches. Some are actually small enough to fulfil this function and look great when paired with the right outside during the summer.
You can, of course, use a larger tote., but then you will start to look more like you’re going out for a beach day. Rifle through your wardrobe to see whether you have any options you could use right now.
Rope belts
Most people have rope lying around the house, right. If that’s you, then you’re in luck: rope belts are in vogue right now. They are a great way to pinch your middle and give you a waist, particularly if you are wearing a trench coat.
Naturally, rope belts don’t work with every outfit, but they do work with a lot of them. If you don’t have a colored rope that you can wear right now, you can always take some from your garden shed and use a dye solution to make it the right colour. (You may have to bleach it first).
Rope belts can be a bit hit and miss, so you will need to use your discretion depending on the outfit. Usually, you’ll find at least one outfit in your collection where they come in handy.
Anoraks
If you don’t own an anorak, you’re not alone. Because they’re not something you’d generally reach for unless you’re hiking or a 50 year old man. Or both. They are certainly a niche choice for the woman who loves outdoor adventuring. However, when worn correctly, they’re also incredibly fashionable.
But what do you do if you don’t have one yet? Easy: just borrow your dad’s.
The fashion world has long been sceptical of the visual appeal of waterproof jackets. But thanks to the efforts of icons like Demna Gvasalia, that’s changing. Going forward, we can expect to see more jacket and bomber-style waterproofs on the catwalk. Brands are responding by improving the cut, styling and colours so everyone benefits.
If you decide to wear an anorak for fashion reasons, wear it slouched off your shoulders. Leave the bottom two buttons or pieces of velcro undone to reveal your midsection – and that’s it.
Wear pre-muddied jeans
Yeah, I know, I know. Usually, mud-covered jeans are a sign that you didn’t properly prepare yourself for your day. But now there is a market for pre-mudded jeans that make you look like you’ve been walking through a bog, even if you haven’t.
What’s the appeal of muddy jeans? It all comes down to what they say about you. Festival-goers are famous for getting caked in mud after an event. So now people want to recreate that look by getting their jeans pre-muddied, without actually having to trample through muddy fields or get splattered first. How long this particular fashion will last is debatable. But it is certainly the flavour of the month right now.
Mismatched accessories
Mismatching your accessories can be a lot of fun. But is it fashionable? Well, apparently so. Starting in 2016, we saw runways packed with models wearing mismatched accessories. And ever since then, fashion houses have continued the trend.
This move is a big plus for people who are always losing earrings and mixing their jewellery in their jewellery boxes. It means that you can wear whatever you have to hand, even if it is just one earring.
Slipper Shoes
The world of women’s shoes has been slowly moving in the direction of slippers for some time now, but nobody was quite brave enough to pull the trigger until now. First, we had the backless mules and then came Moroccan slippers – the babouche. But now the concept of wearing real slippers outside in the spring and fall is starting to catch on.
Of course, you can’t just put on a pair of bunny slippers and expect people to take the choice seriously. But you can try looking for classy slippers in your closet and wear them as part of a matching outfit. Slippers might be a little warm in the summer, but they can be a great way to add a casual touch to an otherwise smart and serious work suit.
Cable tie decorations
Until brands began selling cable ties as bracelets, nobody expected that they would ever seriously become sought-after fashion accessories. They were more for making sure that you’d properly strapped things to the back of your car!
But when designers began adorning their models with fluorescent cable ties on the catwalk, that all quickly began to change. All of a sudden, they became sought-after fashion accessories.
The great thing about this option is the price. You can pick up several hundred fluorescent bands for just a few pounds from a local hardware store. You can find them in the builder’s section. Failing that, other stores, such as office equipment and stationery stores may also sell them.
Pins on blazers
Badges and pins on blazers, tops, blouses and jackets are becoming extremely popular. In the 1990s, people went through a craze of pinning their bags with whatever they could find lying around the house – I remember doing just this in high school. But now the same trend is coming to clothing, and it is taking off in a way that people never expected. It’s a great way for you to remember past events in your life and celebrate old concerts or the bands you used to listen to when you were young.
Knotted bag straps
The concept of knotted bag straps has been around for a while – so it’s nothing new. But it is something that you can do for free and virtually instantly. Just unclip the strap from the adjuster, tie a knot close to the base at the opposite end, and then pull the cord back through the adjuster. Immediately you have your very own fashionable, knotted bag strap.
