Best Singapore Staycations to Feel Like You’re ‘Away’ on Holiday

Yeahhhhhh I understand. I get you. It’s been what, almost two years now since you’ve been able to leave Singapore? Who could have predicted how covid would have changed our entire lives? At first many of us waited patiently for borders to re-open, but there comes a point where you just think sod this, and book yourself a staycation. Two years, nay, even one year without any kind of proper vacation is too long. Your mental health need a break. So does your body.

However, I am not one to enjoy a starched hotel room in the middle of the bustling city – for me, that isn’t very ‘holiday’ vibes on any level. I’m well aware most hotels here are a 20 minute cab ride if that, but I want to FEEL at least like I am somewhere remote and far far away, so I can relax and checkout, in all aspects. That’s why I’ve rounded up the best hotels / resorts that Singapore has to offer, that will give you a proper vacation feel.

To save you time and myself writing time = every hotel in this list has a swimming pool, a gym and a spa alongside the other standard facilities. I figured if we really want that ‘vacay’ mode switched on, these are three key parts to the hotel of choice. Every hotel also has a variety of rooms ranging from standard to deluxe to suites to villas – the prices I have listed are for the standard rooms, at a rate of one night, 2 persons sharing. Savvi? Okay, let’s go…

W Singapore

Stylish, colourful, vibrant and cool, the W Hotel Singapore is set at the far back end of Sentosa island in the cove, right next to the Harbour. The W here in Singapore upholds the brand’s 5 star global core concepts of providing luxury, quality service but with a quirky modern atmosphere. With a large circular wet pool that is blocked by foliage, you feel like you’re far far away from home when you’re relaxing pool side with a cocktail or three. The Kitchen Table restaurant provides delicious breakfasts daily, as well as lunch and dinner until 10pm, whilst other options include SKIRT for steak lovers. Fancy a drink? Try the Woobar with funky egg-pod type chairs or cool afternoon tea tiered delights for your Insta snaps.

The great location of the W means you can walk outside the hotel entrance and enjoy the stunning lit-up harbour walk way for a romantic dinner overlooking the boats. I for one LOVE staying at the W – the views (if you get the right room) are beautiful, the pool is huge and feels like a real holiday style pool area complete with swim-up bar, I adore the colourful, funky cool designs of the hotel and the rooms that do not detract away from the iconic 5star service. It’s fun, young, cool and a stunning staycation hotel – which is why it’s top of my list.

The Barracks Hotel

In polar opposite to the above, The Barracks Hotel is steeped in history – once a British artillery outpost, it has been lovingly restored and boasts of stunning colonial architecture and similar surroundings. A relatively new hotel resort in Singapore, The Barracks is a beautiful option for a couple getaway wishing for some tranquil downtime together, as you feel you’re entering an ‘old world’ when you check in. The grounds and rooms feature dark exposed wood, carefully picked furniture that encompasses both the traditional and the modern, with leather furnishings set against fresh white walls and pillars – the decor so perfectly portrays the heritage of the barracks themselves. If possible, I’d recommend getting a suite that opens up to the 30m lap pool as well as a semi-private jacuzzi, all set in palm tree tropical foliage. It’s so peaceful.

The Capella Singapore

One of the most well-known Sentosa island resorts, the Capella is a 5 star luxury stay that delivers a serene garden grounds setting. With three pools (but most just use the main large one that the restaurant overlooks), you can relax into the peace and quiet, listening to the sounds of tropical birds that sit in the trees behind the pool. Take a long stroll around the resort garden grounds before dinner – particularly beautiful at sunset – as peacocks and other wildlife stroll with you. If you want a proper ‘getaway’ experience, I’d recommend getting the Constellation Room – located in the main building, it has a huge outdoor terrace with private jacuzzi, dining area and views out to the ocean. Or, explore the suites, villas or manor accommodation options. Oh, and the hotel has pet-friendly staycation options too, for those wishing to bring their furry loved ones with them!

Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa

Another 5 star icon on Sentosa is the Sofitel Resort & Spa, which by the name, already tells you it’s a strong contender or a wellness based escape from city life. Situated near Tanjong Beach on top of a cliff, you get the most stunning views whilst deep in the tranquility that a spa-focused resort delivers.  Sofitel draws inspiration from local culture and tradition while celebrating innovation and the French art de vivre to offer a one-of-a-kind, luxurious hotel experience – Imagine Parisian meets Asian and the combination of the best of both – then that’s Sofitel.

Not to mention the spa itself – with a float pool and waterfall – and world class treatments. They even offer wellness programmes and personal training sessions, for those looking for a health based escape.

The Fullerton Hotel

You don’t need to head to Sentosa for a decadent stay that includes a pool and spa – The Fullerton Hotel delivers all the luxury you need, complete with a beautiful Marina Bay view. It isn’t as ‘tranquil’ in setting as the ones above, but still a worthy contender for your ‘me time’ getaway. This is a good choice if you want the vacation feels but tend to get bored in one spot and like to explore and head out of the hotel, given it’s ideal location in the heart of Singapore. This hotel is also a great option for families too.

I recommend The Fullerton Suite, located on the highest floor, where you enjoy a huge indoor living space but also an outdoor courtyard for dining that includes a sheltered pavilion.
