How to travel safely in the age of COVID

For travel lovers, the coronavirus pandemic was a bit of a nightmare. Of course, the main way it impacted their lives was that many places were off-limits; it just wasn’t possible to explore the world. But it also had an impact in other ways too. Even if you could travel, there was some hesitation to do so. As we all know, COVID-19 is best avoided. The majority of people who have had the illness with symptoms will tell you that they’d rather have not had it! And alas, travelling is a pretty good way to catch the virus, if you’re not careful.

While the worst of the pandemic may be behind us, we still need to think about how we can travel safely. In this blog, we’ll look at some useful tips that’ll push you in the right direction.

Follow the airline instructions

Airlines had a pretty big motive for getting back in the air — the longer flights were grounded, the more money they lost. In order to get back up and running, they had to prove that they could transport people from A to B securely. And that means that they can be considered something of experts when it comes to keeping coronavirus at bay when travelling via the air. As such, it’s important to pay attention to what they have to say. They’ll know more than you do!

Good habits

Of course, you shouldn’t just follow the words and advice of the airline. It’s also important that you’re following good habits yourself, too, especially when you’re in crowded areas, such as an airport. There, be sure to wear your mask, keep your distance, and look for hand sanitiser dispensers. Just by doing those three things, you can severely reduce your chances of catching COVID. There’s still plenty of scope for having a fun time when you’re travelling, but you’ll want to have a “safety first” approach at the forefront of your mind.

Get your vaccine

We know there are some people who are not on board with the idea of getting the vaccine, as well as people who just haven’t gotten around to it yet. However, if you’re planning to travel, then it’s recommended that you get yours. Once you have, you’ll find that the process of arriving at and leaving your destination is much smoother. Plus, it’ll save you money — you won’t need to do as many tests when you arrive back in the UK, for instance.

Mental health checks

Finally, be sure to keep an eye on your mental health. The coronavirus pandemic can be tough no matter where you are, but it can be additionally difficult when you’re on the road, especially if the place you’re visiting has a greater problem with the virus than the UK does. At that point, it’ll be important to get any anxious thoughts and feelings in check. If you’ve taken all the correct precautions, then the virus shouldn’t be something that derails your fun — so be sure to have fun!
