If, like me, the February 2021 runway shows seem like a distant memory, chances are you’ve forgotten what trends are hot this winter. Or, perhaps covid has simply ruined your normal zest for high fashion and staying on the pulse with updating your closet. Either way, this piece is for you (and me too, natch).
Without further ado, presenting the top 10 easiest trends for you to follow this A/W 2021, as led by the designers on the runway.
Spoiler alert – it’s not all doom, gloom, grey and black. This winter is BOLD, BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL.
Bold ‘n’ Brazen in Bodysuits
As seen at Prada, Givenchy, D&G, Saint Laurent, David Koma, Miu Miu
Sexy, tight, and full body coverage is the key jumpsuit / catsuit vibe this fall. If it looks like it was spray painted on, showing minimal skin but yet, showcasing every hot damn curve you have – then you’re bang on trends. To really nail it, covering your legs to the ankle is a must, FYI.

She’s in Sheer
As seen at Dior, Simone Rocha, McQueen, Gucci
Think crepe, tulle, mesh, lace – and you’re heading down the right path. Sheer fabrics are all the rage this fall, and you can embrace them in multiple ways. Layer them for a casual day look or dare to bare for your night vibes. Mix the soft sheer fabrics with strong motifs, embroidery, sequins or even more sheer layers. You do you honey.

Simone Rocha Crystal-embellished tulle and pleated crepe midi dress SG$2,536 via Net-a-Porter
Sing a Rainbow
As seen at Versace, Erdem, Oscar de la Renta, Miu Miu, Tory Burch
Unlike your typical autumn muted palette, this fall is all about COLOUR. Every colour in the rainbow will do nicely, merci. You can mix your colours for a larger than life #ootd or pick your favourite and wear it head to toe. Neon brights, pillar box reds, canary yellows – whatever expresses who you are.

Denim for Days
As seen at Dior, Hermes, Molly Goddard, McQueen, Bottega Veneta
For denim lovers you can rejoice, your indigo hues are in. However, scrap the skinny jeans and embrace the wider leg fits this autumn. Denim jackets with a more blazer style fit are in, as are denim dresses too.

Razzle Dazzle
As seen at Armani, D&G, Prada, Chanel, Balenciaga, Valentino, Loewe
Designers are asking us to embrace our inner glamour, sparkle in our femininity and dazzle in our dancefloor ensembles. Who are we to argue back? This fall, shake off any dusty low-key vibes you’ve been feeling (thanks, covid) and go all out with your look. Think sequins (head to toe), glitter, metallic, heck you can even resemble a giant disco ball if you so desire. Jeggings – what were they again?
Shop: Dries Van Noten Della belted sequined tulle dress SG$2,482 via Net-a-Porter
Balmain chainmail maxi dress $14,480 via Farfetch
Kick it in Knits
As seen at Fendi, Salvatore Ferragamo, Chloe, Altuzarra
The comforting knit is back in a big way, but moved beyond the traditional oversized sweater. Your new knit can be a co-ord two piece, a high waisted pencil skirt or knitted dress. For this trend, keep the colours casual and muted to match the material – browns, greys or deep blues. The runways were covered in soft shades of knit – nude, beige, white and all light tones.
Shop: Simone Rocha Oversized crystal-embellished cable-knit sweater SG$1,893 via Net-a-Porter
Balmain Metallic cable-knit wool and Lyocell-blend midi skirt SG$2,220 via Net-a-Porter
Pow Wow Patterns
As seen at Loewe, Victoria Beckham, Moschino, Dior, Louis Vuitton
Along with your pops of colour, we can enjoy epic prints and patterns. This fall’s fashion is really quite uplifting! Any print that makes your heart sing is a good call, you can even clash those patterns if you dare to do so. Try a pant suit in floral print for some serious girl boss vibes.
Shop: Salvatore Ferragamo floral flared silk blouse $1,368 via Farfetch
sacai x KAWS graphic-print skirt $2,957 via Farfetch
T is for Tailored. AF
As seen at Gucci, Valentino, Prada, Wales Bonner, Tory Burch, Chanel, Givenchy
Speaking of girl boss vibes, tailoring is back in a big way too. This fall, you need to get tailored AF. I’m talking a 3-piece suit and heels for your bad self on a Monday. Designers went full force with their tailored looks and expect you to follow suit (pun intended). An easy win is a button blazer, FYI.
Shop: Frankie Shop Isla single-button blazer $502 via Farfetch
Bottega Veneta high-rise straight-leg trousers $1,570via Farfetch
The Micro Mini
As seen at Versace, Valentino, Fendi, Lanvin, Miu Miu
Honestly there isn’t much to elaborate on here, except ask you to take note – the shorter, the better. Your mini skirt / mini dress needs to really, really, be micro mini. I do implore you though, to salvage your female dignity when doing so – you can pair the mini with flat boots or tights if you get cold easily. My favourite combo is a roll neck, mini skirt and flat knee-high boots.
Shop: Versace Belted crepe mini skirt SG$1,087 via Net-a-Porter
Valentino high-waisted pleated mini skirt $1,490 via Farfetch
All Puffed Up
As seen at D&G, Roberto Cavalli, Tom Ford, Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, Chanel
Last but never least, layer up your outfit this fall with THE coat to be seen in – the puffer jacket. I understand it’s quite something for tropical weather but if you want to stay on point, your #ootd will need to be topped with a puffer. I am not a personal fan of the inflated jacket but the powers that be have spoken. Go puff yourself.
