The Best Hair Extensions in Singapore

So I did a thing. I grew my hair as long as I ever had before, and then for some weirdo reason I decided to chop it all off and dye it grey. Yes, you read that right, grey. I purposefully wanted grey hair. Having previously had green hair for years before, my hair has been bleached upon bleach and quite frankly, it’s dead. So, I cannot fathom how I believed I could go from green to black to grey, and still have hair left on my head. But nevertheless, after I chopped it all off and moved from grey to a half-decent bronde colour, I realised still I hated my hair. Great.

So, I went on the hunt for hair extensions in Singapore – someone who can deal with my thick damaged dry curly Caucasian hair – and I luckily found The Parlour salon. Founded by American born Jessi, who is a certified Kevin Murphy Gold.Key trainer, Schwarzkopf Master Colorist and Certified Brazilian Blowout stylist, the salon boasts of a 5-strong female team (yas ladies!) with a 7 day week opening schedule. When it comes to hair, there really is no rest for the wicked – and by wicked I mean awesome.

Jessi and I first had an in-depth consultation on what I was after when it came to hair extensions, and she talked me through the procedure she offers. She also showed me different hair lengths and colours, working out for me what would be the best match. The Parlour uses a bead and string hand tied weft extension system because it causes the least possible damage to the natural hair, and can add serious thickness and volume in quickly. The hair brand of choice is very high quality hair, called Bohyme, and will last at least 8 months but up to 12 months if it’s taken care of properly.

I have previously tried hair extensions in London before and honestly it wasn’t my vibe – my head was so itchy, the hair was heavy AF I felt uncomfortable all the time. This led me to be a bit cautious on spending the money for extensions again in case it’s a past repeat. I am so so happy to say, it has been the exact opposite!

I am not kidding when I say she transformed my entire head of hair, my look and my confidence in just 2 hours. The process was painless and quick, and the hair was a perfect blend to match my hair – I had brown and blonde tones and was worried the hair would be one or the other. But no, it is so good you can’t tell anymore where my real hair ends and the extensions begin. As for the wefts themselves I didn’t even feel them the first night I went to sleep – yes, it’s A LOT more hair on my head than I am used to, but it is never uncomfortable, doesn’t itch and feels as if it’s just my hair now.

Jessi also taught me how to style them, although she definitely does a much better job than I can myself so if I have an event I’m going to, I’ll pop by for a blow-dry. They look good straight or curly, but curlier does blend even better than straight.

As for maintenance, in case you’re wondering, I do lots of hair treatments at home to keep them becoming too dry, I braid them for bed so they don’t become tangled and I try ensure they’re dry as soon as I get out of the shower (aka not going to bed with wet hair like I used to when I was a lazy MF). Jessi also informed me usually around every 7-8 weeks you go back for extensions push-up, where she pushes the beads up higher to keep the wefts as close to your roots as possible. Other than that, it’s styling as usual. No big dramatic change to be honest, same maintenance as my normal hair.

Sending a big thank you to Jessi for this transformation, it’s really had a positive impact on me and I simply adore the long locks! For your own hair extension transformation, get in touch with The Parlour here.
